He knew well Japan, e.g. culture, history, and Kanji 漢字. He was a highly capable young guy. One day, we had a contest of 漢字 dictation with him. He won!! We disclosed our empty heads. He liked 誠 as a symbol of 新撰組. We pronounce '誠' 'Makot' which means TRUE.

Third boy's message (3番目の少年の落書き)
He came from the commonwealth of Virginia. After he was accepted into a university in US. He took a year off from the university due to enter a Japanese high school for studying Japan. But at that time, his coming Japan was delayed due to attack on the Pentagon a couple of months.
